GANGTOK, May 27, 2013
Naina Agarwal of Tashi Namgyal Academy (TNA) has topped the State in ISC Class XII by scoring 92.75 percent. She has also scored above 90 percent in three subjects.
Speaking to SIKKIM EXPRESS over telephone from Kolkata, Naina, who secured either first or second positions since she was in Class III, said support from her family and the school environment has led to this present success.
However, Naina’s grandfather Hari Prasad Agarwal has been an inspiration for her to score high marks.
“He used to give us a small gift at each of our achievements, ever since we were small children, she said, adding that greed for the gifts made her score high marks.
She had scored 87 percent in aggregate in Class X ICSE.
“Studies are not only about marks, but also about believing in yourself, about dedication, hard-work, patience, determination with honesty, she said.
However, she pointed out that “students in the plain areas have more exposure than hill students”.
Before joining TNA, Naina, born to Seema Agarwal and Govind Agarwal, a businessman, got enrolled in Holy Cross Montessori School, and then to St. Thomas School.
Admirer of western music, she has also taken up piano lessons at St Thomas Church, since the past five years.
She is a voracious book reader as well. “My aim is to make myself a name, get recognition for myself, said the girl who wishes to work with the State government.
