Gangtok, Mar 22 (PTI) The Lok Sabha MP from Sikkim P D Rai and Rajya Sabha MP Hishey Lachungpa have urged the Centre to exempt Sikkim from central service tax and also exempt old settlers from payment of Income Tax. During a meet with Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee the duo approsed the minister of several memoranda submitted by Chief Minister Pawan Chamling to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on these issues in past and requested for an early solution. The two said they were in full agreement with the memorandum submitted by the Joint Action Committee of All Sikkim Tourism Stakeholders before the Union Finance Minister demanding that the Central Service Tax be applicable in Sikkim from a prospective date preferrably from April 1, 2012 rather than from retrospective date. The two mentioned that there were some 400 old settlers living in Sikkim prior to the promulgation of Sikkim Subject Regulation, 1961 and the demand was pending for a decision before the Centre. The minister assured the two members that he would look into the matter, official sources said here today. PTI COR SUS
