Sikkim Govt to confer Civilian Awards on State Day

Government of Sikkim has instituted the Sikkim State Civilian Awards in recognition of the sterling contribution and achievements made by individuals in various disciplines and fields of activities. During the press conference  Secretary of Cultural Affairs and Heritage Department, Nalini G. Pradhan informed the media. She added that the objective behind instituting these awards is to felicitate those people who have worked relentlessly for the cause of their community in their individual capacities so that they are encouraged to rededicate themselves with renewed vigour and in process to serve as an example for others to follow.
She further informed that the Sikkim State Civilian  Awards is conferred in three categories namely, Sikkim Ratna (Category A), Sikkim Sewa Ratna (Category –B) and Sikkim Sewa Samman (Category-C).
Elaborating further she added that Sikkim State Civilian Awards, the State’s highest civilian award, will be given in all disciplines of activities namely social services (Sewa), Sports (Khel), Music & arts (Kala), literature (Sahitya), trade and industry (Udyog), etc.  The Sikkim Ratna will be awarded for exceptional and distinguished service. Sikkim Sewa Ratna for distinguished service of high order and Sikkim Samman for distinguished service in any field.
The above mentioned awards are being announced for the first time by the State Government. For the year 2012 no one has been recommended for Sikkim Ratna (Category-A). Nine (9) persons have been recommended for Category-B (Sikkim Sewa Ratna) and twenty (20) persons have been recommended for Category-C (Sikkim Sewa Samman).
The Sikkim Sewa Ratna Award carries citation, shawl, gold plated-silver medal, a memento and cash prize of 2,00,000 (Two Lakhs). The Sikkim Sewa Samman Award carries citation, shawl, silver medal, a memento  and cash prize of 1,00,000 (One Lakhs).
The Secretary informed the press that the presentation of Sikkim State Civilian Award will take place on 16th May, 2012 on the occasion of celebration of State Day at Chintan Bhawan, Gangtok. The conference was also accompanied by  the Secretary Information and Public Relation Department K.S Tobgay .
